Directing first feature doc

Okay so - since 1996 I've been professionally editing. Since 2001 I've been professionally editing documentaries that have gone to festivals.

I've been teaching now for 4 years, but this year I finished directing my first feature documentary.

I've been lucky, I was hired, so I got to do it without raising money.

But what have I learned from the experience?

Well when you are both editing and directing - it's more important than ever to have many screenings and get feedback from people.

Cut it until you are SO solid in it. Because for all the people who love it as it is, there will be a few  who offer their advice for how to change it (whether you ask for it or not) and it's good to know you feel good about every choice.

I and my producer Harvey are just at the beginning of the process applying to festivals. At the advice of Jonathan Skurnick we applied to Docs for Sale - a market for Docs - and are going to attend November 18th - 23rd.

I will keep you posted!

Oh, by the way, the film is called "Bible Storyland" I will post my web site as soon as it is up.
