Case Studies
When Paula G. came to me, she had been working as an administrator for a studio for 27 years, and was ready to get her creative juices flowing. She had been thinking about a documentary about the women who were secretly trained as astronauts back in the late 50's.
She came to the workshops, and formed many friendships with her classmates, and at the same time blossomed as a creative being. She got clear on her treatment, made her trailer, and has begun production for her film. Most importantly perhaps, she found the tone she wanted to convey in her film, and who she wanted to her film to be for. Her trailer (made with support from The Documentary Insider) was referred to as, "The Best Fundraising Trailer for a Film I've ever seen, and I see hundreds!" by Carole Dean, a major grantor of funds and resources to documentarians. Currently Paula G. is conducting her Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to finish shooting the film. Contact her here if you'd like to contribute. ; - ) Here is her Trailer:
Darryl P. is a successful record producer who had been shooting a documentary for the last six years. Though he spoke about it with his wife, he'd essentially been working alone on it all that time. He opted to work with The Documentary Insider on an hourly basis (he was on deadline at a time when the workshop was on hiatus). And the results were exciting! His approach to the film changed and became much more character oriented. When he sought new "characters" to shoot, he knew what he was looking for. And my favorite thing of all, he shared with me that he'd fallen in love with his film again. All in three hours of Documentary Insider consultation. He is on track to meet his deadline to implement the changes suggested by Doc Insider in time to submit his film to the Sundance Film Festival.
